The medical education in Tanzania is undergoing rapid change to keep pace with the global medical technological advancement. MCMS has been established to respond to global challenges happening in medical education. One of the major tasks of the Chiefdom of Medical Services (CMS) is to conserve the fighting strength of the Armed Forces through effective health care delivery system during war and peace time. To achieve this objective TPDF requires induction of well trained Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics. It has been observed that graduates from civilian medical colleges can not fulfill this peculiar requirement of the Armed Forces. This requirement can only be achieved by establishment of a Military College of Medical Sciences which will train medical personnel for a specialized purpose.

E 2002) by the Minister for Defense and National Service Hon Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi (MP), on 8 December 2014. The College was renovated and equipped by the Federal Republic of Germany through the program for equipment support to developing countries. The College was handed over to the Minister of Defense and National Service Hon Dr Hussein Ali Hassan Mwinyi, (MP) on 29 September 2015 by His Excellence Egon Kochanke, the Germany Ambassador to Tanzania. The college enrolls both civilian and military students for the diploma and advanced diploma courses. The military studies are exclusively for military personnel only.
